Yesterday while taking a walk on the Cable Bay Trial just south of Nanaimo I witnessed the most magical whale sighting I have ever had. I approached a section of the trail called Dodds Narrows which is a narrow section of ocean between Vancouver Island and Mudge Island. As the tides ebb and flow the water rushes through this narrow passage and creates quite fast moving currents. Just as I walked up I witnessed a pod of Orca or Killer Whales traversing the passage. I counted at least six whales and a couple of them were quite young. They were literally a stones throw away from where I stood on shore. Never had I come so close to a whale before, brilliant experience!
