I arrived in Nanaimo May 12th and had a quick overview of the city from my colleague but started work almost immediately on the 14th.  The weather so far has been lovely, although it has chilled to the low teens as we approach the weekend.  Having just completed my first week in the city, I wanted to share a few pictures from my experiences so far.

I will be kept very busy in my new role at Vancouver Island University.  There is  lots happening in terms of new technologies on campus and it looks like I am working with a great team of people.  After work I spent much of my personal time sorting out administrative issues: health card, drivers license, cell phone, etc.

Nanaimo is a small town surrounded by gorgeous natural beauty!  On the pacific channel facing east towards Vancouver and the mainland of Canada, the city waterfront is dotted with islands to explore – one of them a national park.  My place in departure bay looks east towards the sunrise and the city of Vancouver in the distance.  The island ferry and sea planes come and go all day long.  Near my place I can access a rugged beach and lovely ravine, complete with two waterfalls!
