I had my friend Steve from Australia visit in May. Steve and I met in Namibia when I was living there back in 2006. Steve has got a two year visa to explore Canada but was first on his way up to Alaska to climb Mount McKinley in the US Denali National Park, a formidable adventure! Passing through Nanaimo, I could not help but take Steve on one of our favourite hikes, Duke Point. We then did a quick day trip to Tofino, walking some of the trails and beaches there. Finally we hiked up Mount Tzouhalem in the Cowichan Valley. While Steve was visiting we enjoyed numerous fires out on our new backyard fireplace.
