After a number of experimentations with the Coopers home brew beer making kits we decided to try and make beer from raw ingredients. We ordered two beer kits from Hop Dawgs; an oatmeal stout and a cake-n-arse mild and received the raw ingredients to make beer from scratch. The process is quite different from a Coopers kit and involves boiling the ingredients with the water in a large vessel. My friend Eric ended up buying a turkey deep-fryer which came with a pot large enough to do the boil, plus the propane burner which could support and heat the 20+ litres of water. It was a lot more work and time invested then a Coopers Kit but we learner a little more about the beer making process and are optimistic of the result.
