I spent a week in Victoria recently while attending the EdMedia 2013 conference. I really felt that I had the chance to get to know the city better during this visit, as I spent the evenings exploring a little more then I have had the chance to in the past. On a couple evenings I ran the 260 metre high Mount Douglas trail which is just north of the city and provides lovely views of the city and Salish Sea.
I also had a chance to explore Victoria’s many, many lovely restaurants dining at; the amazing Prima Strada pizzeria (two visits :); Rebar Modern Food for vegetarian; Pink Bicycle a gourmet burger bar; Ebizo sushi bar; a pretty amazing Pierogi Truck; and Pagliacci’s Italian restaurant. Yes, I ate me way through Victoria but coupled with busy days at the conference and mountain running or beach walking in the evenings I did not feel too bad about it.
Concurrent to the conference was the Victoria Jazz Festival and so I also managed to catch a couple of the free shows in the city square.
I met the Ramblers group for 9am at the Flower Ridge trailhead. Our group of six set out just after 9am. We got to the ridge in about four hours. read more…
I arrived at the Crest Mountain trailhead at noon. The trail is well established and meanders through switchbacks up to the ridge. You gain just over 1100 metres to meet. read more…
Immediately following the Marble Meadows trip, a trip that already required my kayak to cross Buttle Lake to meet the trailhead, I arranged a kayaking trip in the Nuchatlitz Islands.. read more…
I have been wanting to return to Marble Meadows for some time. The only time I had visited previously was during the Golden Hinde Traverse when we came out through. read more…
