I spend five weeks in Christchurch as part of my sabbatical from work. I was based at the University of Canterbury for that time conducting my own research and engaging with the faculty and students (I have posted a reflection about that here). I also explored and enjoyed the city, lovely people, ample green spaces, and I also joined the local hiking club in Christchurch. I was car free for the stay and used a bike and the local scooter share program to move around. This is a highly bikeable city, as it is largely flat and has many cycling routes.
This is a collection of photos from the time based in the city. I really found it to be a remarkable experience. Christchurch has largely been rebuilt following the major earthquakes of 2010 and 2011. I found it to be friendly, thoughtfully designed, and welcoming place. I hope to return again one day and spend more time.
