Today I gave my first lecture! It was such an accomplishment it was for me to be able to do this. I was first off honored to be given the opportunity by the Vice-Rector of the University. I started big; lecturing masters of international business students. I will not be lecturing as an ongoing thing, but I would not rule it out if given the opportunity again.
My topic was process management mainly using the ARIS Toolset. The ARIS Toolset is a German made software application that allows organization to create a relational repository of all processes, people, data stores, applications, and business functions. I have been using it extensively in my consulting work at the Polytechnic of Namibia.
I was quite nervous prior to this event. There was no doubt that I knew what I was talking about, but the thought of speaking in front of a group still gives me chills. Luckily for me it was a small group of about 10 students and lecturers. This worked will with me and I almost immediately lost my fear once I began speaking.
My lecture lasted three hours with two examples where I employed nearly all of the class’s participation. It was a great feeling having everybody taking part as I led the discussion. I felt that I came off pretty cool and people were generally impressed with my performance, I even cracked a couple of jokes!
