After seven years in Africa I spent my first weekend at our family cottage in Muskoka, Ontario for the Labour Day weekend. My employer was gracious enough to grant me a few days holiday even at our busiest time of year as the students descend on our campus, for which I am very grateful.
A quick flight Thursday night form Nanaimo to Toronto and I was back in Ontario and up north in Muskoka by mid-day Friday. The four days I spent with my sister, brother in law, father, cousins, aunt and uncle were magic! We had a number of adventures: exploring the islands, late night camp fires (ouch!); shooting stars; finding treasure (a geo-cache) on one of our islands; and uncovering an urn set in shallow waters off one of our islands (yup!). In addition it was great to catch up with the dock rocking crowd and share some amazing dinners.
Dock culture
Aunt Chris enjoying ‘Underwear Island’
Ontario tree huggers association
McKay Lake’s only known geo-cache is stocked
Sister and Aunt Chris at the geo-cache
Fishing lures
Husky on the rocks please
Island dwellers own 10 or so dogs
Kayaking at the sandy shore
Sister moored at the sandy shore
Dad soaking it up
Stand up paddleboard yoga
Stand up paddleboarding
Impromptu wine tasting!
BBQ’d chicken dinner on the deck
Dock rockin
Ribs, loaded baked potato and fresh Ontario peaches and cream corn
After being away for 5 years I finally returned to my family cottage on Mckay Lake in Muskoka. The main task of the day was closing up for the winter. read more…
