Snake Island Regatta 32

In late June I volunteered to help with the Snake Island Nanaimo Sailing Regatta after hearing about the opportunity online. The regatta was in it’s 28th year, so I much to learn about the tradition and ritual of the yearly race. The race is organized by the Nanaimo Yacht Club (NYC) and racers come from all around the island and west coast of BC to compete.

The wind was variable on the day so I got to see boats both cruising slow and flying across the waves. It was a great experience to learn about the sport and the craft of sailing. We had three classes of boats, from small, medium and large racing in heats together.  On my bucket list is to get out on a boat and learn to sail!
