A quick early season trip into the Gulf Islands with my friend Shawn. We launched from Gabriola Island, heading south along the cliffs of Valdez Island. We made a camp at Blackberry Point and spent the second day taking a trip through Porlier Pass to visit Dionisio Point Provincial Park on the North end of Galiano Island. A little research enabled us to time our passing through the normally turbulent narrows. I have miscalculated this before, and it is important to note that when using daylight savings time, one hour must be added to the predicted time in the published tables. We passed in the morning during the first slack tide, then were marooned there till the tide turned again 6 hours later.
