NZ Road Trip: South Island Day 10 Driving the West Coast to Kaiteriteri

Just north of Greymouth is the Pancake Rocks and Blowholes Track a great stop to see these unique geological structures on the coast.

Onwards north the Paparoa National Park really had an interesting feel. There are a number of little cottages and resorts along this stretch of road and I feel like I could have spent a week in this area. Numerous tracks up into the lush coastal jungle are waiting to be explored too.

We turned East and away from the coastal route at Charleston heading inland along the Buller River. The Buller Gorge was a totally wild lush jungle river experience. It felt remote and unexplored. This is a large river so I can only imagine the flora and fauna that can be found on the area. Sadly, I have no pictures of the area as it was pouring rain during our travel.

This was a long day of driving, as we continued along past Murchison, through the fruit and hop growing region of the north part of the South Island. We pulled into the little town Kaiteriteri and found a holiday park by the beach.

The sand here is a lovely orange color and we explored the beach end to end finding various seashells of interest.
